Post Doctoral Fellow

KU is seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Fellow to work on this project funded by the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center.
The postdoc will conduct high-quality experimental research on measuring radionuclides and their transfer in the UAE's arid environment. The duties will include managing and utilizing equipment and facilities in compliance with university regulations (EHS).
Experimental activities will include:
- Consolidation of input data on soil characteristics, including the radionuclide baseline, and on agricultural practices.
- Consolidation of experimental protocols for radioecology experiments and optimization of techniques for low-activity-radionuclide measurements.
- Investigation of radioisotope uptake mechanisms for local plants and seasonal vegetable plants.
- Development of meta-knowledge on the influence of local parameters on the uptake of radionuclides.
As part of the project, the researcher will access state-of-the-art research equipment and facilities at the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center. He will benefit from key collaborations with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture, and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council.
Position Requirements- Conduct research on measuring radionuclides and their transfer in the UAE's arid environment.
- Proficiency in radioecology experimental protocols and techniques.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques, including gamma spectrometry, ICP-MS, and ICP-OES.
- Experience in investigating radioisotope uptake mechanisms in plants.
- Experience in writing scientific papers: High-impact first-author publications in the top 25% of journals in the relevant field.
- Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to train and mentor students and support fellow researchers.
- Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.
- PhD from a reputable university in Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, or a related discipline.
- Experience writing scientific papers: High-impact, first-author publications in the relevant field.
- Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to train and mentor students and support fellow researchers.
- Highly developed reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- The proven ability to work on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines.
- PhD gained from a Top 500 QS or THE ranked University.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in radionuclide environmental measurements or/and radioecology as a researcher in academia, nuclear organization or industry.
