Islamic Studies Teacher Educator - Assistant/Associate Professor

Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE) is a leading national center for teacher education and educational research located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. ECAE seeks to appoint an Assistant/Associate Professor in Islamic Studies Teacher Education. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher educator to contribute to the design, development and delivery of Islamic Studies teacher education for aspirant and in-service teachers of Islamic Studies in Early Years, Primary OR Secondary school contexts.

ECAE would like to recruit a new member of faculty who will:

  • Design and deliver pre-service and in-service Islamic Studies teacher education programs and assessments for Early Years, Primary OR Secondary school settings.
  • Contribute to the delivery of other Graduate courses and programs at ECAE dependent on knowledge and skills.
  • Supervise students in their assignments, including research-based and school placement projects.
  • Make regular partnership school visits to students during their professional placements and liaise with school-based mentors in the supervision of students on placement/practicum.
  • Actively contribute to the research profile of ECAE by undertaking educational research, dissemination and impact activity related to Islamic Studies teacher education and literacy.
  • Contribute to other activities and committee service at ECAE as appropriate.

Research Experience:

  • You will be expected to contribute to the research profile of ECAE. Early career researchers will receive mentor support to further develop their research knowledge and skills.
  • You will be committed to practice-relevant research as a way of promoting research-informed developments in pedagogy and assessment. You will express this commitment in your own research-informed teaching and research activity.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Be bilingual in Arabic and English.
  • Possess a PhD in Islamic Studies or a relevant subject, or be close to completion in your doctoral studies.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years' experience teaching, assessing and developing courses and materials in Islamic Studies teacher education within a higher education context.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years' experience teaching Islamic Studies in schools.
  • Have experience providing learning support for graduate students in relation to critical thinking and study skills.
  • Strong organizational skills in managing multiple projects.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Experience combining online and face-to-face teaching in a blended mode of delivery.
