Role Context The Specialist Pediatric Ophthalmologist will provide dedicated eye care for children across different stages of visual development. The position focuses on early diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of pediatric ophthalmic conditions that can affect vision, learning, development, and quality of life. Working within HealthHub Clinics, the specialist will have access to referrals from Paediatrics, Family Medicine, General Practice, Neurology, Endocrinology, Developmental Services, and Allied Health teams. This multidisciplinary environment supports continuity of care and enables the ophthalmologist to develop a strong pediatric practice within an established outpatient network.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive ophthalmology consultations for infants, children, and adolescents.
• Assess pediatric visual development and identify abnormalities requiring treatment or monitoring.
• Diagnose and manage common and complex pediatric eye disorders.
• Evaluate and treat strabismus and other ocular alignment conditions.
• Diagnose amblyopia and develop individualized treatment plans to support visual improvement.
• Assess pediatric refractive errors and determine appropriate clinical management.
• Monitor children with developmental or neurological conditions that may affect vision.
• Perform age‑appropriate pediatric vision assessments and interpret clinical findings accurately.
• Develop follow‑up plans for patients requiring ongoing ophthalmic monitoring.
• Coordinate with paediatricians, optometrists, neurologists, developmental specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Work with orthoptic services where appropriate for squint assessment and visual rehabilitation.
• Explain diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, and follow‑up requirements clearly to parents and caregivers.
• Provide guidance to families on visual development, treatment adherence, and early warning signs requiring reassessment.
• Maintain complete and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with DHA requirements.
• Follow evidence‑based ophthalmology protocols, patient safety standards, and clinical governance requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement activities that strengthen pediatric ophthalmology services.
• Maintain professional knowledge through continuing medical education and relevant clinical development.
• Support appropriate internal referrals and multidisciplinary case discussions when children require broader specialist care.

Ideal Profile

This position is suited to an ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in children 's eye health and the communication skills required to work effectively with both young patients and their families.

• Recognized specialist qualification in Ophthalmology.
• DHA, DOH, or MOH license as a Specialist Pediatric Ophthalmologist.
• Fellowship or formal subspecialty training in Pediatric Ophthalmology is preferred.
• Strong clinical experience managing pediatric ophthalmology patients in an outpatient setting.
• Previous UAE healthcare experience is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing and managing strabismus.
• Strong background in amblyopia assessment and treatment.
• Experience treating pediatric refractive disorders and visual development concerns.
• Familiarity with pediatric vision screening and orthoptic assessment is advantageous.
• Previous exposure to children 's hospitals, pediatric clinics, or multidisciplinary pediatric services is beneficial.
• Ability to communicate comfortably and sensitively with children of different ages.
• Strong counselling skills when discussing diagnoses and treatment plans with parents and caregivers.<
