Roles and responsibilities

The Staff Nurse is accountable forthe coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care,patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nursesupports professional nursing practice across the continuum of careto meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse willunderstand, support and promote the mission, vision and values ofSSMC; provides age-appropriate patient care according to theNursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. TheStaff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Codeof Conduct for Abu Dhabi andUAE.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Collectsand analyzes assessment data to determinediagnosis/issues:
    • Assesses comprehensive dataincluding but not limited to physical, psychosocial, emotional,cognitive, and spiritual needs and interprets assessmentinformation to derive the diagnosis or issues as defined by thepatient's condition.
    • Usesevidence-based assessment techniques and instruments in collectingdata and validates the diagnosis or issue with the patient, familyand healthcare team members asappropriate.
    • Prioritizes the data andinformation collected based on patient's immediatecondition or anticipated needs and identifies potential risks orbarriers to the patient's health orsafety.
    • Documents the data and informationcollected in compliance with established guidelines and reflectiveof the needs of thepatient.
  • Planning andOutcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes and developsa plan that address health promotion, health restoration and healthmaintenance to attain expectedoutcomes.
    • Involves patient, family andhealthcare team members in formulating a culturally appropriateindividualized plan of care.
    • Appliesevidence-based nursing practices in developing the individualizedplan of care to attain expected outcomes and continuity ofcare.
    • Modifies the individualized plan of careaccording to the ongoing assessment and reevaluation of thepatient's response, status, and outcomeindicators.
    • Documents the expected outcomes asmeasurable goals in a manner that uses standardized language orrecognized terminology. JOBDESCRIPTION
  • Implementationand Coordination of Care Delivery:
    • Implementsthe plan of care in partnership with the patient, family andhealthcare team members in a timely manner utilizing evidence-basedinterventions and treatments specific to the needs of thepatient.
    • Performs treatments and proceduresaccording to established procedural guidelines andprotocols.
    • Administers medications according toorganization policies and procedures.
    • Ensuresthat all components of the individualized plan of care, includingmodifications, are documented in the patient's healthrecord.
    • Communicates relevant informationacross all levels of care andorganizations.
    • Demonstrates a working knowledgeof resource consumption and practices within a cost-effectiveframework.
  • Healthteaching and health promotion:
    • Utilizes teachingstrategies appropriate to the individual patient'scondition and learning needs.
    • Uses healthpromotion to support patients and families in developing skillsthat promote, maintain, or restore healthy lifestyles andself-management support.
    • Seeks opportunitiesfor feedback and evaluation of the effectiveness of the strategiesused, including teach back.
    • Ensures that allcomponents of the health education, relevant to the clinicalcondition, is documented in the patient healthrecord.

  • Evaluation: Evaluates progress towardattainment of outcomes.
    • Evaluates thepatient/family's understanding of and response to the planof care.
    • Utilizes systematic and ongoingassessment data to revise nursing diagnoses, outcomes, and the planof care.
    • Involves the patient, family andhealthcare team members in the evaluationprocess.
    • Provides a comprehensive clinicalhandover/report as required to ensure patientsafety.
    • Attends patient care rounds,communicates, and updates the attending healthcare provider onchanges in the patient'scondition.
    • Communicates with the patient careteam about ongoing changes in patient's plan of care andunit activity
    • Documents the reassessment ofpatient status; patient and family participation and understanding;and the rationale for any revision in the plan ofcare.
  • Evidence-basedPractice and Research: Integrates evidence and research findingsinto practice.
    • Utilizes current evidence-basednursing knowledge, including research findings, to guide andevaluate practice.
    • Participates inevidence-based and research activities at various levelsappropriate to the nurse's level of education andposition.
    • Shares evidence-based and researchfindings with healthcare teammembers.
    • Participates in performanceimprovement projects for the evaluation and improvement of clinicalpractice
  • Leadership:Demonstrates leadership behaviors in practice settings, across theprofession, and in the community.
    • Functions as aprofessional role model promoting a positive, team-based,organized, and safe workenvironment.
    • Coordinates and supervisesdelegated activities to assure completion and serve as a resourcefor other healthcare team members
    • Demonstratescritical thinking in priority setting and decision making inresponse to patient needs.
    • Pursues informal andformal leadership opportunities
    • Participatesactively in organizational shared decision-making situations thatimprove the nursing practice, organizational performance, andoutcomes.
    • Supervises practical nurses andjunior staff and student nurses to ensure the provision of safe andeffective patient care.

EducationalQualification:

Required

  • Bachelor degree in nursingOR
  • Degree in Nursing (minimum two (2) yearscourse duration) AND Registration as a Registered Nurse fromCanada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, andAustralia
  • AND valid/current nationallicense.
