Key Responsibilities of the role
- Liaising with Nursing Senior Leadership: Supports and works in partnership with nursing senior nurse leadership in setting the strategic direction for the nursing department. Leads the Clinical Excellence, Documentation, Woundcare and Education team to perform consistent, systematic evaluation of clinically based programs to determine if they meet patient/staff needs and are responsive to department/organizational direction. Liaises with and assists nursing management in the formation of measurable performance criteria to assess nurses' levels of competence. Provides the clinical expertise essential to support managers with complex clinical issues. Provide monthly reports to illustrate the activities of the clinical performance, excellence, education and research team.
- Leadership: Utilizes theory, clinical expertise, evidence-based standards of practice to design, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical excellence affecting bedside care delivery and nursing practice. Supports the framework of SKMC Center of Nursing Excellence, working with the senior nurse leaders and unit leaders to strengthen the organization's nursing structure and nursing engagement. Supports an environment that allows staff to acquire skills, and identifies and develops new ideas that ensures commitment to the organizational goals. Acts as a change agent for the organization. Addresses the immediate legal and ethical dilemmas in a professional, collaborative manner and refers to the relevant person for action. Facilitates to improve practice efficiency and patient outcomes with the system through broad expertise in the delivery of nursing professional practice, including models for care delivery and models of professional practice. Provides leadership in and role models critical thinking, conflict management, and problem-solving. Remains current of new trends and best practices and incorporates this into Nursing Excellence practices, education and programs. Participates in the recruitment process when appropriate and in line with SEHA HR policy. Evaluates staff performance for safety and adherence to organizational policies and procedures based on evidence-based tools and initiates recognition or performance management strategies as appropriate. Provides leadership in support of the evidence-based practice, quality initiatives, and promotion of a healthy workplace environment. Coordinates activities to upskill nurse competence based on organization's needs and growth. Coordinates career development and succession plan training for all key nursing positions from practical nurse to senior charge nurse in collaboration with senior nurse leadership. Participates in committees and task forces that are interdisciplinary or interdepartmental; may be required to chair, co-chair, or lead such groups.
- Management of Clinical Practice: Identifies the learning needs of nurses in consultation with the nurse executive team to support individual and organizational learning plans and develops an annual learning plan. Assumes leadership role at the departmental level in planning, designing, and implementing educational initiatives to achieve expected outcomes at the point of care. Applies the ADDIE model to planned education in order to prescribe a variety of strategies, alternatives and resources to accomplish learning goals. Partners with other point of care leaders to demonstrate effective resource management at the point of care. Coordinates nursing excellence, safety, quality, documentation, Woundcare management and education initiatives through collaboration with all stakeholders to promote nursing sensitive outcomes by identifying trends in nursing, coordinating action plans and driving change and accountability with nurse leaders and nurses in clinical setting. Develops, implements, and evaluates (core and advanced) skills programs for nurses. Performs clinical assessments of nurses and provides certification of competency where required. Assesses and evaluates the quality of educational resources and equipment required to meet the learning needs of nurses. Collaborates with nursing staff and other disciplines in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs to determine education program effectiveness. Demonstrates skill in adult education, group dynamics, curriculum development, communication, and teaching strategies. Ensures specialty-specific orientation is provided to relevant staff and participates in the organization's orientation programs as required. Builds relationships with staff, peers, and colleagues to support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental planning, aimed at improving patient outcomes. Provides opportunities for individual nursing staff development. Supports in development of link nurses in collaboration with infection control, quality, EHS, woundcare and others as relevant. Analyzes studies trends in nursing practice and recommends changes or adjustments in existing practice, adapting as required to meet the needs of the patient. Leads the implementation of evidence-based practice and participates in research to promote clinical knowledge and a research-based clinical practice environment.
- Communication: Maintains a strong communication network with the clinical leadership in promoting educational programs. Uses information technology to access, transmit, and produce information as necessary. Keeps records and prepares reports of nursing service activities as / when required by the organization.
- Performance Improvement/Risk Management: Leads quality improvement activities by assisting with the development, implementation, and review of standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines, evaluation of indicators, and reporting of outcomes and trends. Utilizes information gained from program evaluation to determine future program directions in liaison with nursing and quality leadership. Supports and participates in ongoing educational and research programs within the Nursing Department and the organization. Supports a culture of performance improvement. Monitors and supports the organizational Key Performance Indicators and Clinical Indicators and reinforces corrective action to improve clinical service. Responsible for minimizing exposure to incidents of infection/cross-infection of patients, staff, visitors, and the general public. Ensures staff adheres to the infection control policies and procedures of the organization. Complies with International and HA-AD Patient Safety Goals. Participates in interdisciplinary teams and Performance Improvement Projects for evaluation and improvement of processes and clinical practice.
- Education: Leads strategies to monitor that Nurses/Midwives assess patient and family education needs, plan for and provide education and evaluate outcomes. Leads the provision of systems that enable staff to access resources, internal and external, to provide patient and family with accurate information and resources to meet their health care needs. Provides training or facilitation services to a designated audience with a designated topic focus. Utilizes working knowledge of adult learning theory to effectively prioritize training needs and to tailor content and delivery to audience needs. Co-sponsors educational programs with other organizations. Assists staff in identifying and meeting ongoing learning needs and pursuing opportunities for professional development. Participates in planning and developing programs using existing learning content as a foundation for development. Works with subject matter experts to promote the utilization of best practices in the design and development of learning. Collaborates with other departments in hospital-wide education programs.
- Professional Responsibilities: Liaises with internal and external agencies to assist with the development of managerial/leadership competencies for both personal and staff development. Maintains and updates professional portfolio. Leads the development and implementation of formalized staff orientation and professional development programs for Nurses/Midwives in the areas. Responsible for continually developing knowledge and skills to enhance professional competencies relevant to the area of work. Leads strategies to monitor and ensure mandatory and unit-specific competencies are completed as per departmental policy. Initiates and supports ongoing education and research programs within the Nursing Department and the organization. Leads the education team to initiate or participate in Nursing and or other disciplines of research that contribute to continual improvement. Leads the education team to obtain accredited and non-accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Units in compliance with HA-AD and the organization's requirements.
- General: This job description is not definitive and following periodic review may be subject to change. The Manager of Education will also be expected to contribute to the wider corporate and organizational development needs as appropriate within the scope of practice. The Manager of Education will be expected to ensure compliance with the requirement of the Health and Safety regulations of the organization. Upholds the organization's customer service standards at all times. Adheres to the guiding principles and values inherent in the NMOC.
- Responsibilities of the Clinical Role:
- Clinical Practice: Demonstrates integration of the unique knowledge and technical skills required for the specialty as per the role-specific clinical practice definition in Appendix 1 of the SEHA competency and training matrix.
- Facility Specific Responsibilities of the Role:
- Specialization: Specialty technical skills are required for this area as outlined in the SEHA Clinical Competency and Training Matrix and/or the departmental/unit Scope of Service.
- SEHA Compliance guidelines:
- Complying with Policies, Procedures, and Practices of the SEHA facilities and other regulatory requirements: Complying consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices and ensuring alignment with SEHA facilities policies. Completing and maintaining regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
- Maintaining Confidentiality: Maintaining confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with the release of information and password SEHA policy.
- Promoting Customer Service standards: Assuming the role of a brand ambassador for the facility and promoting a customer-focused philosophy in dealing with any stakeholders. Maintaining positive and effective working relationships within the department/division and also with other departments/sections within the facility. Performing any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basic responsibilities of the role.
- Adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety, Materials Management, and Maintenance standards: Adhering to requirements of the Occupational Health and safety guidelines and infection control guidelines. Understanding and adhering to emergency preparedness plans/policies.
- Ensuring Personal Effectiveness: Recognizing the necessity of continuously developing skills and acquiring additional knowledge appropriate to the position. Dressing appropriately to meet the expectations of the specific work area and in alignment with the Occupational Health and Safety policies. Building key partnerships within the organization for pursuing client-centered, comprehensive, integrated systems of care. Complying with any regulations related to mentoring, training, and development of UAE nationals staff.
Qualifications, Certifications, and Experience
- Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Post Graduate Diploma in Education. Highly Desired: Masters in Nursing/Healthcare Management or Nursing/Clinical Education.
- Specialist Certifications: Required: Certification in Education Leadership or Nursing Management and Leadership from a recognized body for nursing certification Or Clinical Masters in one of the nursing specialties with a minimum one (1) year full-time course duration. Specialization approval on the license of nurses with experience in one of the aforementioned specialties for a period of no less than four (4) years. Desired: Has completed or is working toward a relevant post-grad qualification in a relevant field with the intention to complete it in 2 years.
- Experience Required in addition to the Qualifications mentioned above (Relevant to the Job): Required Experience: A total of 12 years' experience post-graduation inclusive of 4 years in leading and managing clinical education. UAE Nurses: a total of 8 years' experience post-graduation inclusive of 2 years in education (academic or clinical). Desired: Magnet/ Pathway to Excellence Standard Experience.
