Principal Electrical Engineer

The Principal Electrical Engineer isresponsible for interpreting internal or external business issuesand recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solvingcomplex Electrical-related problems and will work independentlywith minimal guidance. The Principal Electrical Engineer may beresponsible for leading functional teams or projects and isregarded as a specialist in the field of Electrical. As such, theymust have in-depth expertise in Electrical as well as broadknowledge of the Electrical discipline within the Engineeringfunction.

Responsibilities

KeyTasks and Responsibilities:

• Perform conceptual, FEED, anddetailed analyses and design as per design basis, projectspecifications, design codes, andstandards
• Apply in-depth skills and broadknowledge of the business to address complex problems andnonstandard situations
• Prepare clear andaccurate detailed design calculations and analyses including designreports and - procedures
• Manage own time tomeet objectives and (as Lead Engineer) forecast and plan resourcerequirements
• Clearly communicate and explaindifficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point ofview
• When acting as Lead Engineer, inaddition:
  • Direct small or medium Engineeringteam as a Lead Engineer
  • Lead the Disciplineengineering design of the assigned work area and complete it withinthe planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, MDR,and project-specific procedures and to a high professionalstandard
  • Plan, organize, and direct all aspectsof Discipline execution on the assigned project including scope,deliverables, schedule, and all worker resources - agreeallocations with the Discipline Manager
  • Ensureinterfaces and deliverables are clearlyidentified
  • Maintain responsibility for progressand productivity, identifying any required correctiveaction
  • Act as project representative forDiscipline during meetings with the Project Team, Customerdiscipline lead, and relevant agencies such as certifyingauthorities, auditors, third parties,etc
• Become fully familiarwith the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and allinter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns asearly as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to addressthe issues Interpret contractual requirements as they relate toengineering execution
• Identify changes to scopeand promptly raise change notifications, including providing anynecessary supporting documentation andestimates
• Provide similar support for VariationOrders
• Interface with all disciplines todevelop clash-free designs
• Interface with otherdepartments to obtain input for Discipline designs anddrawings
• Maintain close coordination with otherengineering disciplines, Planning, Fabrication, Marine, and ProjectManagement teams, as required
• Documentsubstantive communications (communications that result insignificant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copiesto the Discipline Lead Engineer and DisciplineManager
• Prepare estimates for bid proposals,including technical query reviews, execution statements, andman-hour estimates, identifying software requirements and any otherproject-specific requirements. Raise technical queries to obtainmissing information, clarify work scope, and maintain preferredMcDermott procedures, specifications, standards, practices, andoperational requirements
• Prepare, review, and(as Lead Engineer) approve Discipline engineering design basis,philosophies, and technicalspecifications
• Participate in finalizingdeliverables lists and deliverables, ensuring compliance withspecifications and functional integrity
• Reviewproject schedule and fabrication schedule in relation toconstruction sequence, milestones, and engineeringscope
• Attend project kickoff and reviewmeetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, and offshore sitesurveys, as required
• Provide technicaldirection and review of Designers producing products related toElectrical Engineering

• Assist procurement personnel in procuringDiscipline equipment, materials, and services; ensuring that workproduced complies with Customer objectives andprocedures
• Procurement assistance includespreparing, reviewing, and (as Lead Engineer) approvingrequisitions, evaluating technical quotations and preparingqueries, compiling bid tabulations and recommendations, preparingpurchase requisitions, and coordinating with Procurement toexpedite vendor documents, as directed by the Discipline LeadEngineer
• Assist in updating weight reportsbased on receipt of vendor information
• Reviewand (as Lead Engineer) approve vendor and subcontractor submittals,checking for compliance with project specifications and providingcomments as necessary
• Review and (as LeadEngineer) approve design verification through single disciplinecheck/interdisciplinary check (IDC)
• Providetechnical support to fabrication queries, including identifyingdefect/rectification requirements
• Keep theDiscipline Manager and Project Management Team apprised of allactivities and concerns, technical, budgetary, and manpowerrelated
• Assist in providing inputs for actual,planning, and forecasting progress reports including associatedproductivity
• Check final subcontractor andvendor data manuals to ensure that all requested data has beenreceived and approved
• Present issues andproblems to Customers in a timely manner and assist the LeadEngineer in negotiating resolution in accordance with project andcompany requirements
• Perform (as required)Technical Quality Audit reviews in accordance with MDR GlobalProcedures
• Assist Lead Engineer with responsesto Customers and other agencies (such as certifying authorities,auditors, third parties, etc.) on their review andapproval
• Capture lessons learned and enteredthem into MDR's Lessons Learnedsystem
• Guide less experienced engineers on MDRand Discipline procedures, standards, worksheets, designcalculations, software, requisitions, technical bid evaluations,technical queries, etc.
• Supervise and guideassigned engineers and coordinate with project Lead Designers forDiscipline engineering and designdeliverable
• Responsible for the engineeringintegrity of the assigned work area
• Monitorcosts of own work processes
• Assist in themaintenance of departmental technical guidelines and standardcalculation notes
• Participate in thedevelopment and maintenance of Global Procedures, Software, andStandards
• May participate in standardsdevelopment committees or task groups such asAPI
• Identify and provide training to staff inspecific techniques and proprietarysoftware
• Provide information on employeeperformance to the Discipline Manager
• Assistthe Discipline manager in interviewing jobapplicants
• Review and (as Lead Engineer)approve material lists, P&ID, etc. for Electricalequipment/systems and services for detailing thescope
• Update and (as Lead Engineer) approvespecifications and data sheets for Electrical and bulkmaterials
• Review and (as Lead Engineer) approveElectrical system studies/calculations
• Prepare,review, and (as Lead Engineer) approve one-line diagrams andschematics diagrams
• Prepare, review, and (asLead Engineer) approve electrical equipment building layoutdrawings
• Prepare, review, and (as LeadEngineer) approve lighting calculations/illumination study for theplatform lighting system
• Prepare, review, and(as Lead Engineer) approve load lists or update load lists issuedby Customer
• Coordinate and arrange forequipment inspection, FAT
• Participate in FAT& inspection and preparation & resolution of punchlists on the arrival of skid/material
• Prepare,review, and (as Lead Engineer) approve spare part lists andpreservation reports
• Review and (as LeadEngineer) approve Pre-commissioning and commissioning index andprovide technical assistance on-site during pre-commissioning andstart-up as required
• Review and provide inputto secondary cable routing (branch cable trays, channel trays,single tubing, etc.) where detailing is notdone
• Advise fabrication yard of installationlocations for small E&I equipment that is not sufficientlydetailed in the AFC drawings
• Prepare, review,and (as Lead Engineer) approve cable drumschedules
• Identify special tools, equipment,and requirements for commissioning andHook-up
