An Associate Professor in Counseling Psychology is an academic professional who specializes in teaching, research, and clinical practice related to counseling psychology, which focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of emotional, mental, and behavioral issues in individuals and groups. - Doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology or a related field from an accredited university in the United Arab Emirates.
- Expertise in Mental Health Psychology.
- At least (3) years previous university teaching experience.
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
- The applicant should have published papers in journals within the global databases (Scopus).
- The applicant must be fluent in both Arabic and English.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver courses in designated areas of study.
- Uphold the fundamental standards of the University, including Teaching, Research, and Service.
- Evaluate and monitor individual student progress, providing feedback to promote student success.
- Research, organize, and manage instructional resources, course outlines, and community networks.
- Actively seek methods, procedures, and resources to effectively achieve course objectives.
- Support and participate in accreditation initiatives.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Desired candidate profile
1. Teaching and Instruction
- Course Development and Teaching : Designing and teaching graduate-level courses in counseling psychology. Topics may include theories and techniques of counseling, psychometrics, assessment and diagnosis, ethics in counseling, multicultural counseling, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
- Supervision of Clinical Training : Providing clinical supervision to students who are undergoing practical training in counseling, ensuring that they develop effective therapeutic skills while adhering to professional ethical standards. This may involve overseeing practicum or internship experiences.
- Mentorship : Mentoring and advising graduate students, helping them navigate their academic and professional development. This may include guidance on research projects, career planning, and preparation for licensure.
- Curriculum Design : Collaborating with faculty colleagues to design and update the counseling psychology curriculum to ensure it reflects current research, clinical practices, and societal needs. This includes ensuring that students are equipped to work with diverse populations in a variety of therapeutic settings.
2. Research and Scholarly Activity
- Conducting Research : Engaging in original research focused on areas within counseling psychology, such as therapeutic interventions, mental health outcomes, assessment tools, the impact of cultural factors in therapy, and professional training models. Research may also focus on emerging topics in mental health, such as digital mental health tools, trauma-informed care, or the effects of societal factors on mental well-being.
- Publishing Research : Writing and publishing research in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at academic conferences, and contributing to the development of new knowledge in counseling psychology.
- Grant Writing : Securing funding for research projects through grants from government agencies, private foundations, and other sources. This involves writing compelling grant proposals and managing research budgets.
- Collaboration : Collaborating with faculty from other departments, institutions, or external organizations to conduct interdisciplinary research, particularly in areas related to mental health, social work, and education.
- Research Mentorship : Guiding graduate students and junior faculty members in their own research projects, helping them develop research questions, methodologies, and analyses.
3. Clinical Practice and Professional Engagement
- Therapeutic Practice : Some Associate Professors may also engage in part-time clinical practice, offering counseling services to clients in a private practice or community-based setting. This helps maintain their expertise and provides a real-world connection to their academic work.
- Professional Development : Staying current with developments in counseling psychology and related fields, such as new therapeutic techniques, assessment tools, and legal or ethical changes. This involves attending workshops, webinars, and conferences.
- Community Engagement : Engaging in community service or outreach related to counseling and mental health. This might include offering workshops on mental health topics, advocating for mental health awareness, or providing pro bono counseling services.
- Supervision and Consultation : Providing supervision to licensed practitioners or offering consultation services in clinical or organizational settings. This may involve providing professional feedback or training to mental health practitioners.
