Diagnoses And Treats Patients AccordingTo Established Standards Of Best Practice For The PostHolder’s Specialty. The Consultant Physician’sClinical Duties Include But Are Not Limited To TheFollowing:
- Oversees theclinical activities of the junior medical staff and is assumesresponsibility for the care theyprovide
- Complies with all established hospitalpolices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care,surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow uppractices
- Practices appropriate utilization ofthe organization’s resources
- Leadsward round; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regularbasis, in line with established bestpractice
- Accurately documents all relevantclinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordancewith established procedures
- Regularly reviewsresults of all investigations and modifies treatment asrequired
- Liaises with other medical specialtiesand support services for additional input asrequired
- Actively participates inmulti-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe andholistic care for individual patients
- Ensurespreparation of patients for all procedures including obtaininginformed consent
- Accepts clinically appropriatereferrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, otherdepartments, specialty clinics, walk in patients, and patientsreferred from other hospitals
- Participates inand ensures the provision of out of hours (on call) coverage on arotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and publicholidays as required
- Communicates clinicalinformation to patients and the patient’s family andfriends (with consent of the patient) in a timelymanner
- Maintains a good working relationshipwith members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-basedapproach to patient care
- Performs otherclinical responsibilities as assigned
