Roles and responsibilities

  1. TransactionProcessing

    • PaymentHandling: Accurately processing payments fromcustomers using various methods, including cash, credit cards,debit cards, mobile payments, or giftcards.
    • GivingChange: Calculating and providing the correct changewhen customers pay withcash.
    • IssuingReceipts: Providing customers with receipts, whetherprinted or digital, after completingtransactions.
    • HandlingRefunds/Exchanges: Processing returns, refunds, orexchanges in accordance with store policies, ensuring customersatisfaction while adhering to companyguidelines.

  2. CustomerService

    • GreetingCustomers: Welcoming customers with a friendlyattitude and assisting with any queries related to pricing,products, or services.
    • AnsweringQuestions: Helping customers with information aboutproducts, promotions, or storepolicies.
    • ResolvingIssues: Addressing any concerns or complaints fromcustomers in a professional manner, often in collaboration withsupervisors ormanagers.
    • Upselling or SuggestingAdd-ons: Depending on the business, cashiers maysuggest additional products or services to customers, such aspromotions or relateditems.

  3. ProductScanning and ItemHandling

    • ScanningMerchandise: Scanning or entering productinformation accurately into the cash register or point-of-sale(POS) system.
    • BaggingItems: Packaging purchased items neatly andefficiently while ensuring that fragile or delicate items arehandled properly.
    • CheckingPrices: Verifying the correct prices for products orresolving any price discrepancies duringcheckout.
    • Managing Discounts orCoupons: Applying store discounts, loyalty programpoints, or coupons to customer ordersaccurately.

  4. CashHandling andAccountability

    • ManagingCash Drawer: Ensuring the cash drawer has thecorrect starting balance and maintaining it throughout the day bymanaging cash flow and counting money at the end ofshifts.
    • RecordingTransactions: Keeping accurate records of dailytransactions for reconciliation at the end of theshift.
    • BankDeposits: Some cashiers may be responsible formaking bank deposits or preparing the till for the nextday.

  5. Maintaininga Clean and OrganizedWorkspace

    • WorkstationOrganization: Keeping the cashier area clean andtidy, including clearing any clutter and restocking items likebags, receipt paper, and othersupplies.
    • Sanitizing:In retail or food service settings, especially post-pandemic,cashiers are responsible for maintaining hygiene and sanitizingtheir workstations to ensure a safe environment for customers andstaff.

  6. Securityand LossPrevention

    • Monitoringfor Theft: Keeping an eye out for suspiciousactivity, ensuring that merchandise is properly scanned and that noitems are being stolen.
    • ReportingSuspicious Activity: Alerting supervisors orsecurity staff if any theft or fraud occurs during the transactionprocess.

  7. Compliancewith StorePolicies

    • FollowingProcedures: Ensuring all transactions comply withstore procedures, including verifying identification forage-restricted products (such as alcohol ortobacco).
    • Adhering toPromotions: Applying any discounts or special offersaccurately according to the store's current promotions orseasonal campaigns.
    • FollowingHealth and Safety Regulations: Ensuring that allhealth and safety guidelines are followed, particularly in foodservice establishments or places where cashiers handleconsumables.
Desired candidateprofile
  • Perform returnsand special transactions through the POS system, ensuring allspecial offers have been applied correctly before being charged tothe guest
  • Keep the "registerstation" stocked with all necessaryitems
  • Notify management of allguests' POS Systemissues
  • Consistently maintain a balanced cashdrawer
  • Process all guests' paymentsby cash, credit cards, debit cards and/or giftvouchers
  • Ensuring each waiter closes up anyopen checks they might have before their daily report has beenprinted off
  • Filling out all waiters'envelopes at the end of each night, performing all calculationsincluding but not limited to CC Total, Cash Total and TipsTotal
  • Processing end of service calculations,doing end of shift and end of day revenuecalculations
  • Perform related duties asrequested by the management team
  • Report to workas scheduler working various shifts including but not limited toweekends, holidays and/or nightshifts
  • Supervise the AssistantCashier
  • In charge of the monthly payroll of theteam
