Roles and responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver allaspects of cost management from inception of a project through tocompletion.
  • Achieve the highest standards ofprofessional competence and to demonstrate this ability in alldealings with clients and professional contacts, reinforcing theprofile of the company.
  • Drive performancestandards and technical excellence through expert communication andeffective use of the performance management process and AECOMtechnical practice networks.
  • Maintain anddevelop good relationships with clients, take every opportunity touphold and increase the profile of the firm as a provider ofprofessional, premium quality services to the constructionindustry.
  • Actively support the internal teamand manage more junior staff on technically complexprojects.
  • Develop marketing opportunities andwhere appropriate bring to the attention of Directors and theBusiness Development Department, in order that they may assist infollowing up potential leads enabling the development of newbusiness.

Qualifications

MinimumRequirements:

Skills/experiencerequired:

  • Significantexperience and strong track record in the Cost Management/QuantitySurveying field.
  • Strong pre-contract costmanagement experience.
  • Experience ofundertaking cost/commercial management as part of integrated,multi-organisation, collaborative teams
  • Abilityto identify and influence key client stakeholders, buildingeffective relationships to growworkload/portfolio
  • Good working knowledge ofFIDIC contracts

PreferredQualification:

Degree inQuantity Surveying (or equivalent); MRICS Accredited


Desired candidate profile

1. Cost Estimation andBudgeting:

  • CostEstimation: Prepare accurate cost estimates forprojects or activities, considering labor, materials, equipment,and overheads. This includes both direct and indirectcosts.
  • BudgetDevelopment: Develop detailed project budgets,ensuring alignment with the project's scope, schedule, andoverall financial goals.
  • RiskAnalysis: Identify and assess potential financialrisks (e.g., cost overruns, unforeseen expenses) and developstrategies to mitigatethem.

2. Cost ControlandMonitoring:

  • CostTracking: Monitor actual costs against the budgetthroughout the project lifecycle. Track expenditures and providedetailed reports on costvariances.
  • VarianceAnalysis: Perform regular variance analysis toidentify discrepancies between planned and actual costs,investigating reasons for any cost overruns orsavings.
  • Forecasting:Reforecast project costs as needed, especially when significantchanges occur during the project lifecycle (e.g., design changes,scope expansion, or unforeseenconditions).
  • ContingencyManagement: Manage contingency funds and assesswhether additional contingency is required based on projectconditions.

3.Financial Reporting andDocumentation:

  • Reporting:Prepare and deliver regular cost reports to senior management,stakeholders, or clients, detailing the current status of theproject’s financial health and any potentialissues.
  • ChangeManagement: Assess and document the financial impactof changes in project scope, design, or execution. Ensure that anychanges are reflected in the budget and that proper approval isobtained.
  • InvoiceManagement: Oversee the invoicing process forcontractors, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring that paymentsare in line with project milestones and contractualagreements.
  • CostBreakdown: Provide detailed cost breakdowns forspecific components of the project, helping the team understand thefinancial allocation for eachaspect.

4. Contract andProcurementManagement:

  • ProcurementSupport: Work closely with procurement teams to helpensure that costs are controlled during the purchasing process andthat supplier contracts are aligned with budgetconstraints.
  • ContractReview: Review and negotiate contracts withsuppliers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure they arefinancially viable and in line with project costexpectations.
  • TenderingSupport: Assist in preparing tender documents,ensuring that cost estimates are competitive and reflect theproject’s financialconstraints.
