Head of Debt Capital Markets**
Location: Dubai

Role Purpose:

The DCM product is an integral part of the Corporate Finance and Investment Banking (CFIB) proposition. This is a core financing product used by Sovereign, GRE, FI and Corporate issuers.

The Head of DCM will focus on delivering sharia compliant DCM solutions to ADIB's client base across its core markets.


  • Product owner within CFIB responsible for DCM origination, syndication and execution.
  • The Head of DCM will report to the Head of CFIB and core deliverables for this role will involve:
  • Origination of DCM transactions by engaging with existing issuers active in the DCM market or debut issuers who could benefit from accessing the DCM market
  • Lead the transaction through the entire life cycle from pitching to financial closing including, inter alia, credit analysis, pricing, structuring, due diligence, documentation, syndication and closing
  • Lead FI investor coverage to build the syndication capability for DCM transactions
  • Developing a robust pipeline of DCM transactions including positioning ADIB for lead roles on mandates, secure a top 3 ranking on sukuk league tables, acquire new relationships, achieve and exceed the annual budget for fee revenue, achieve share of mind with target clients
  • Drive collaboration with the Retail bank to harness ADIB's distribution capabilities and to position ADIB to secure lead roles on DCM mandates
  • Leverage ADIB's significant sukuk investment portfolio to ensure the ability to allocate significant capital in the HFT and HTM book is employed to secure lead roles on eligible DCM mandates
  • Collaborate closely with FI coverage teams to ensure lead roles on DCM issuances by FI clients
  • Managing key external and internal relationships with external counsel, forge effective relationships with key banks in the Sukuk space to support deal execution capabilities.
  • Manage interface with ADIB Shariah department in coordination with the WBG Shariah structuring team to anticipate and resolve structural considerations in an efficient manner
  • Ensure DCM deals are concluded in compliance with product programs and overall credit policy of bank achieve successful Shariah and internal audit outcomes with no high risk or repeat findings
  • Track and communicate relevant market and economic developments, regulations
  • Ensure regular communication with key stakeholders to position the DCM business and ensure emerging issues are addressed proactively
  • Lead new DCM product development / expand product offering where relevant including developing product strategy, client engagement and product infrastructure

Key Accountabilities of the role

DCM Origination

  • Develop a calling plan in coordination with the coverage teams with the objective of meeting fee targets for the DCM business
  • Actively promote ADIB's DCM capabilities with key issuers in the GCC market to source deals and deepen origination and distribution capabilities in the target market
  • Originate and convert mandates and develop robust pipeline of DCM transactions diversified by issuer type, geography across client types (Sovereign, GRE, FI, Corporates)
  • Support deepening of distribution capability within the retail bank to support execution of mandated transactions
  • Identify and maintain regular contact with clients and banks in the DCM markets to ensure robust pipeline and deal flow
  • Quality of execution on DCM mandates, based on pricing analysis, management of syndicate groups, market updates to the client, steering pricing discussions to meet client/investor expectations, allocation of the orderbook, and delivery of ADIB's DCM distribution proposition

Syndicate Function

  • Manage syndicate function for DCM transactions including building and nurturing investor relationships
  • Monitoring FI investor appetite, asset allocation and investment considerations
  • Cover institutional and HNW investor base in close collaboration with the ADIB retail priority and private bank investment advisory and product teams

Others

  • Implement a robust set of standard operating procedures for the DCM product and process
  • Ensure ADIB brand visibility in relevant external forum and build market awareness / relationships

Specialist Skills / Technical Knowledge Required for this role:

  • Strong understanding / experience of DCM products
  • Knowledge of Islamic capital markets
  • Sharia structuring capability
  • Proficiency in Bloomberg
  • GCC market experience
  • Solid understanding of credit and market risk gained within a leading DCM / corporate finance platform
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • Sound understanding of accounting, finance and legal aspects in context of a capital markets transaction
  • Strong knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework in the region / international for capital market issuances including the UAE
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer and presentation skills
