Job Summary

As a Commis Chef, you will play a crucial role in the preparation and execution of our gourmet meal plans, ensuring our customers enjoy delicious and nutritious meals on a daily basis.

You will work in a dynamic kitchen environment, assisting our senior chefs in various culinary tasks and contributing to the development of innovative dishes that meet our high-quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of a wide variety of dishes, adhering to recipes and quality standards.
  • Follow proper food handling and safety guidelines to maintain high levels of food hygiene and safety.
  • Assist in the organization and cleanliness of the kitchen, including stocking and maintaining kitchen equipment.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create new and exciting recipes and variations for our meal plans.
  • Portion and plate meals according to specifications and maintain consistency in portion sizes.
  • Help with inventory management and order supplies as needed.
  • Monitor food storage and handling to minimize food wastage.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working in a fastpaced kitchen environment.

Qualifications:

A formal culinary education from a recognized culinary institute or vocational school is preferred, but not always mandatory

  • Proven experience as a Commis Chef or in a similar role within a professional kitchen. Previous experience in meal preparation, meal planning, or catering services can be highly beneficial.

Strong cooking skills and a good understanding of various cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and basic culinary principles are essential

  • An evident passion for cooking and a genuine enthusiasm for creating and delivering highquality, flavourful meals.

Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations is important to ensure safe food handling and kitchen cleanliness

Work Environment:

The central kitchen is a fast-paced and high-stress environment, especially during peak meal production times.

Commis must be prepared to work in a hot and sometimes crowded kitchen, with various kitchen equipment and appliances in operation.

Physical Demands:

The role can be physically demanding, requiring standing for extended periods, lifting heavy pots and pans, and continuous repetitive tasks.

Proper footwear and protective clothing are essential for comfort and safety.

Safety Measures:

Adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols is mandatory.

This includes the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and aprons, as well as adherence to food safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of both staff and consumers.

The kitchen operates as a team, and communication and collaboration with other kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants, are vital for a smooth workflow.

The kitchen environment can be hot, so it's essential for commis to be accustomed to working in a warm and potentially humid setting.

The kitchen often experiences high-pressure situations, especially during meal plan delivery times or busy catering events. Commis need to maintain focus, stay organized, and handle stress effectively to meet production goals.

Maintaining a clean and organized station and following food safety standards are critical. Commis should expect to clean and sanitize their workspace regularly.

Training and Advancement:

Opportunities for advancement and career growth within the company may be available, but they often depend on performance and experience.

Training in new cooking techniques, recipes, and equipment usage may be provided by the company.

Other Requirements:

  • Since this role involves direct contact with food prepared for the customers, we expect the incumbent to be professionally well groomed. This role is gender specific for men & expected to be clean shaven, if not the Mustache & beard must be neatly maintained.

Work Timings:

  • The business is operated on a 24/7 model, and it requires its employees to work in different shifts & on public holidays with a staggered weekly off, one day per week, The work schedule will be 9 hours with 1 hour coffee & lunch break.
  • Note: Shifts may vary depending on the company's production schedule, and Chef de Parties may be required to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Overtime and extended hours might be necessary during busier periods.
