Our client, a global leader in the energy and power space, is seeking a Head of Government & Institutional Relations to join their UAE office to lead on government and institutional affairs across the entire MENA region. This is a newly created position within the organisation’s global structure. Reporting to the Global VP of Government Relations, the Head of Government & Institutional Relations will ensure compliance with external regulatory requirements and will implement relevant policies and procedures to ensure the organisation is best represented with government and regulatory institutes for the MEA region. The ideal candidate will have 12 + years of experience in government relations/public affairs/institutional relations and will have proven experience leading in corporate or public functions, preferably with knowledge of the power/energy or utilities sectors. Key Responsibilities: Developing, defining, and executing the Government & Institutional Relations strategy in the MEA region, in alignment with the global Government & Institutional Relations team, whilst supporting business strategy in the region. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders globally to ensure that key business goals are achieved in relation to the wider external relations strategy, in addition to ensuring the businesses activities are conducted ethically as per the company’s policies. Monitor local and regional markets to keep updated for any issues relating to policy or regulatory issues that may affect the organisation. Maintain a robust network with government bodies, officials, of all levels and other authorities/institutions including trade associations, banks, state owned utilities, and joint ventures to ensure first class communication and ensuring that the organisation has key established governmental and institutional relationships. Building key relationships within civil society including social institutions, NGOs, and environmental bodies to build brand equity. Supports crisis and issues management as relevant. To be considered for this role you must have proven experience leading government and institutional relations within a global environment, you will be extremely familiar with government and public affairs in the UAE, and surrounding MEA region including Saudi Arabia. A working knowledge and understanding of the energy/power/utilities space is advantageous as well as a keen interest in sustainability related activities.
