The Sr. Mechanical Engineer willassist the Project Manager and the Resident Engineer inadministering the operational functions of the daytoday activitieson the project. The Mechanical Engineer will participate and managein review and approval of all submittals by the contractor with afocus on quality assurance during the engineering phase ofconstruction.

Under the supervision of theproject resident engineer or MEP lead performs routine inspectionmonitoring tasks to confirm if proper construction supervision isbeing performed by others. Inspects various facets of work on theconstruction site and performs continuous surveillance of assignedconstruction activities to ensure compliance with all applicablecodes standards and specifications. Document nonconformance and mayparticipate in determining appropriate resolution.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Resident Engineer or MEP Lead in performingthe contractual duties on site.
  • Providesresolution for technical engineering problems within the assigneddiscipline(s); coordinates application of solutions to ensureprogress on site.
  • Advise the project managerof any technical aspects of the mechanical services that may affectconstruction progress quality and the like.
  • Continually review the contractors construction scheduleduring the progress of site works.
  • Reviewconstruction submittals from project inception to closeout.
    • Review Contractors installation methodstatements.
    • Review Contractors shop drawingsagainst the design tender drawings for compliance with the designintent and return to project manager with appropriate comments /approval.
    • Review contractors mechanical shopdrawing in conjunction with the structural and electrical engineersto ensure engineering coordination and advise project manageraccordingly.
    • Review Contractors mechanicalservices material proposals against specified technical performancerequirements and advise the Project Manager on the appropriatenessof the proposals.
    • Review Contractors proposedsub contractor(s) associated with the Mechanical engineering worksfrom a technical standpoint.
  • Monitors material procurement and deliveries to ensuretimeliness in support of construction activities and schedulewithin the assigned discipline.
  • Undertakegeneral project site observation / inspection of the mechanicalservices works for Contractors adherence to the approved shopdrawings and Consultants specification good working practices theconstruction schedule and health & safety.
  • Be available to undertake offsite inspections of proposedequipment and materials as may be deemed necessary by the ProjectManager.
  • Undertake prior review ofContractors proposed mechanical system testing &commissioning methods and schedule
  • Witnessonsite piped system pressure test air conditioning duct leakagetesting and other testing that may be required during the first fixworks and advise the Project Manager accordingly.
  • On a spot basis witness mechanical system final testingand commissioning.
  • Review and comment onContractors testing and commissioning results and advise ProjectManager accordingly.
  • Prepare ongoing list ofmechanical services defects for contractors remedial action.
  • Undertake final project snagging and preparelist of defects for Contractors action.
  • Attend project site progress and any mechanical servicesrelated technical meetings as directed by the project manager.
  • Prepare draft site / engineers instructionsrelating to the building mechanical services as required and issueto the Project Manager.
  • Provide advice to theProject Manager in regard to any mechanical services relatedvariation costs that may be claimed by the Contractor during thecourse of the works.
  • Review and comment uponContractors Operation and Maintenance manuals.
  • Oversee junior engineers and inspectors for allmechanical work and ensure that installation activities comply withcontractual obligations and quality control standards.
  • Followup with the contractor and support in coordinatingwith the utility authority regarding connections whenever required.
  • Ensures that the project quality controlprocedures are used for the construction supervision works andmonitors it for improvement.
  • Collaborateswith construction management to eliminate any hazards associatedwith the work that may adversely affect the environment or thesafety or health of employees.
  • Reviews andinterprets discipline design drawings and specifications to ensurecurrent re vision level and correct technical execution of thework.
  • Performs works inspection requests andmaterial inspection requests as required to support juniors.
  • Performs other responsibilities associatedwith this position as may be appropriate.

Technical skills and experience required:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering orequivalent.
  • Min of 10 years postgraduateexperience and a min. of 7 years of similar work experience onlarge projects.
  • Regional experience ispreferred.
  • Authority registration ispreferred.
  • A professional who can manage andcoordinate specialized activity discipline or team of moderate sizeand complexity.
  • UAE Driving Licence
  • Proactive in resolving issues.
  • Good communications skill & relationshipbuilding.
