Responsibilities

  • Perform civil engineering design andcalculations for the following facilities:
    • Stormwater management, retention and sediment control ponds, sizing theditches, culverts, and various ponds.
    • Water andslurry pipelines, including valve stations, air valves and lowpoint drains.
    • Site development (roads, pipelinecorridors, facility pads, rough grading, site preparation /foundations excavation, finished grading and surfacedrainage)
    • Pipe and open channelhydraulics.
  • Conductthorough review and checks on civil engineering designdrawings.
  • Prepare contract and procurementtechnical support documents such as scopes of work, specifications,and bills of quantities.
  • Conduct site visitsand field investigations for the construction and modification ofmining and industrial facilities and services whenrequired.
  • Develop creative yet practical civilengineering concepts.
  • Prepare technicalreports, specifications, design criteria, and detailed materialtake-offs.
  • Work with and lead civildesigners.
  • Site visits and coordination withConstruction/Trades.
  • Establish good workingrelationships and communication with internal and externalstakeholders.
  • Contributing to the preparationof technical specifications and engineering input to material,construction, and commissioningpackages.
  • Providing engineering technicalsupport to the field during construction, including responding toRFIs from construction contractors, issuing Site Instructions andperforming field reviews.
  • Involvement in thedevelopment of proposals, study reports, engineeringspecifications, and contractdocuments.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree inCivil Engineering with eligibility to register or alreadyregistered as a Professional Engineer withEGBC.
  • 4-8 years of experience in civilengineering design within mining, energy and/or industrial projectsof varying stages from conceptual to detaileddesign.
  • Solid experience in site development,and pipe and open channel hydraulics.
  • Tailings/ slurry piping design experience is anasset.
  • Working knowledge of various pipingmaterials, fittings and joining methods.
  • Soundknowledge in storm water management, stormwater runoffcalculations, sizing the ditches, culverts, andponds.
  • Experience in interpreting and applyinggeotechnical design recommendations on civil designs is anasset.
  • Good understanding of various coordinatesystems and survey controls.
  • Excellentorganizational, technical, communication and computerskills.
  • Authorization to lawfully work inCanada without sponsorship from Wood isrequired
