Job Description:

Principal Highway Design Engineer

Abu Dhabi, UAE

What You'll Be Doing:

1. Review and provide input on designs, technical specifications and submittals ensuring compliance with project requirements, regulatory standards and constructability considerations.
2. Identify and mitigate technical risks, design and construction conflicts, and interface issues related to roads and highways across various projects.
3. Review and assess temporary traffic management plans (TTMP) submitted by contractors for multiple project sites.
4. Ensure traffic detours are safe, efficient and compliant with regulatory requirements minimizing disruptions to road users.
5. Provide technical guidance and design clarifications to construction teams during project execution.
6. Work closely with project teams to identify and mitigate risks related to design execution, construction phasing and traffic impacts.
7. Assist in value engineering initiatives to optimize design solutions and enhance project efficiency.
8. Coordinate with Integrate Transport Centre (ITC), road authorities, project teams and other stakeholders to ensure project approvals and compliance with legal frameworks.
9. Facilitate workshops and technical meetings to align stakeholders on key design and execution challenges.
10. Collaborate with road authorities, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are fully integrated into the project design and execution phases.
11. Support the PMC team in reporting project progress, design challenges and mitigation strategies.
12. Provide input on change management processes, ensuring design modifications align with project objectives and budgets.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation or a related discipline from a reputable institution.
2. Minimum 12 years of experience in design management for roads, interchange and major highways.
3. Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating between infrastructure, utilities, landscape and structural elements.
4. In-depth knowledge of international and Abu Dhabi standards and requirements.
5. Prior experience with Abu Dhabi Authorities' approvals and regulatory processes is ideal.
6. Experience in reviewing and implementing temporary traffic management plans for large-scale infrastructure projects.
7. Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including government entities, contractors and design consultants.
8. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management capabilities.
9. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads.
10. Experience with BIM processes and digital design coordination is preferred.
11. Excellent report writing, presentation, technical documentation and communication skills.
12. Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project).
