Anesthesia Technician

EssentialResponsibilities
- Assembles basic anesthesia set up andequipment. Performs initial anesthesia machine check and subsequentleak testing between cases. Troubleshoots anesthesia machine andphysiological monitors as needed. Assists with patient transport tothe operating room, including placement of the patient on the ORtable and non-invasive monitors (NIBP, EKG, Sp02, and temperature).Assists with set up of invasive monitoring equipment in routine andemergency situations: Swan-Ganz, arterial line, central venouspressure line, P.A. Line, cardiac output, fiber optic intubationand regional nerve block. May assist with direct patient care underthe direction of the Anesthesia provider. Assist Anesthesiaprovider with induction of anesthesia, including cricoid pressurefor intubation as directed. Picks up and delivers lab specimens andABGs as required. Coordinates patient monitoring and equipmentavailability with PACU and Critical Care units. Works withperioperative team to facilitate prompt OR turnover time. Removesand disposes of all supplies and equipment at the end of the case.Replaces supplies and equipment needed for general/regionalanesthesia between cases. Prepares anesthesia procedure tray asrequested. Disinfects, decontaminates and sterilizes allanesthesia-related items, machines and carts as required perInfection Control procedures. Maintains adequate stock ofmedications and supplies in anesthesia machines and carts,including rotation and replacement of dated items. Maintainsadequate stock of supplies in emergency code blue boxes, malignanthyperthermia carts, difficult intubation carts, invasive monitoringcarts, pediatric carts and regional anesthesia carts as listed oncart inventory. Examines sterilization date on medical instruments,supplies and equipment and replaces items no longer sterile.Maintains records and documentation of equipment, quality checksand waived testing performed in department. Coordinates withBiomedical Engineering for maintenance and repair of anesthesiamonitoring equipment as needed. Disassembles, inspects, tests,wraps and dates instruments and equipment. Identifies damage andinitiates appropriate repair and replacement process. Uses steam,gas and plasma sterilizer. Reads and records Biological testresults. Assists with complex patient transport to PACU/ICUincluding preparation of oxygen source and transportation monitors.Coordinates with Pharmacy to maintain stock, return and replace alloutdated items except controlled drugs. Maintains log for ExtraOrder drugs. Ensures availability of backup monitoring equipment atall times and provides timely replacement as need. Coordinates withUnit Manager to maintain and revise inventory par levels forsupplies and equipment. May participate in the orientation andtraining of new employees. Establishes and maintains courteous andcooperative relations with the public, patients and otherpersonnel. May perform other duties as required.
Experience
BasicQualifications:
- High SchoolDiploma/GED.
- Current understanding of equipmentoperations used in Anesthesia department, working knowledge ofAnesthesia department procedures. Demonstrated ability to performthe duties and responsibilities required of an AnesthesiaTechnician

PreferredQualifications
- Certification by the American Societyof Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians as a CertifiedAnesthesia Technician. Certificate of training for DragerAnesthesia System, PPS Saracap or equivalent biomedical course,basic nursing care, crisis management, and principles ofasepsis.
- Previous experience as an AnesthesiaTechnician or current enrollment in accredited AnesthesiaTechnologist Program required
