Job Purpose: The Lead DataEngineer is a fully participating member of a crossfunctional teamworking autonomously on technology development and problemresolution in Enterprise Data & Analytics. The roleinvolves the design development testing implementation support andmaintenance of technical data and analytic solutions and productsthat support Emirates Airlines and the Emirates Group businesseswith a focus on technical solution design and endtoend fit withinthe data architecture. The position demands indepth expertise inthe respective technology profiles and involves collaboration withbusiness stakeholders product owners delivery leads architects andsite reliability engineers to deliver highquality product featuressuccessfully and in a timely fashion.

In this role you will:

  • Lead technical designdevelopment and deployment for solutions within a team. Carry outeffective technical design reviews to ensure that the rightarchitecture patterns are used by the team. Conduct required sourcesystem analysis data profiling BI & UI design anddevelopment to ensure delivery of businessneeds.
  • Complete data engineering coding anddesign tasks on problems of high scope and complexity. Demonstrategood coding principles and exercise good judgment in designing andbuilding solutions. Conduct code review for peers. Ensure solutionsadhere to published data privacy and cybersecurityprinciples.
  • Implement and practicefitforpurpose estimation techniques to promote iterative delivery.Help the team in refining estimates during sprint planning withoptimal assumptions and interdependencyunderstanding.
  • Operate with a datadrivenmindset. Help translate data and analytics requirements into datasolutions based on the approved technical designs. Assist with dataanalysis activities such as UI/UX designing and Web ComponentDevelopment to ensure solutions deliver on business needs. Workwith team members to envision solutions as a UI Component Libraryand Single Page Application (SPA).
  • Ensuresolutions being built are stable scalable and maintainable. Enabletest automation and ensure CI/CD pipelines are in good health.Implement monitoring of data applications and track product qualityperformance and stability. Drive corrective adaptive preventativeand perfective actions to maintain solution reliability andquality.
  • Collaborate with members of thecrossfunctional team to identify areas of inefficiency and proposesolutions. Identify activities resulting in optimal resourceutilization cost reduction technical debt remediation serviceimprovement and reuse value. Partner with architects and productowners to prioritize and implement suchactivities.
  • Update data inventories andregistries as required to keep metadata and data lineage uptodatefollowing agreed Data Governance standards guidelines andprinciples.
  • Partner with fellow team membersPrincipal Data Engineers and Architects for developing andimplementing data engineering best practices and modernizationtechniques promoting solution reusability process automationbuiltinquality testdriven development agile delivery timely rootcause analysis and blameless incident postmortems. Key contributorin building and adopting data engineering playbooks for therelevant technologies and ensuring adherence to said playbooks aswell as other published coding standards data technologyblueprints.
  • Work effectively on incidentresolution conducting root cause analysis and handling businessescalations. Engage other technical experts and vendor partners inthe timely resolution of incidents. Maintain regular andtransparent communication during incident management. Conductpostmortem and lessonslearned discussions.
  • Keycontributor and catalyst in attracting and retaining dataengineering talent. Handhold new joiners to ensure successfulonboarding. Support engineering leadership for venturing intodifferent working models for scaling up the data engineering teamin line with deliverycommitments.

Qualifications &Experience: To be considered for the role you must meet the belowrequirements:

  • Degree orHonours (123 or equivalent) In a relevant field such as ComputerScience Computational Mathematics Computer Engineering or SoftwareEngineering.
  • Specialization or electives in aData & Analytics field (e.g. Data Warehousing Data ScienceBusiness Intelligence) are nice to have.
  • 5years experience in Analytics UI/UX web and App design experience(Fewer years experience will be considered for masters degreeholders).
  • Minimum 5 years of developmenttesting and support experience in analytic applications such asanalytics BI designing and singlepage applications for analyticsdashboards.
  • Experience with web componentdevelopment; experience with designing and coding interactive BIinterfaces and UI/UX that handle massive quantities of data(structured and unstructured) securely and in a timelyfashion.
  • A deep understanding of dataarchitecture concepts such as data modeling Big Data storage Lambdaarchitecture data vault and dimensional modeling is nice tohave.
  • Deep understanding of system integrationarchitecture and demonstrated experience building integration withvarious types of source systems; able to design and develop loadsof operational systems data into a single data platform using avariety of data integration tools.
  • experiencein building reusable components.
  • Experiencedesigning monitoring and alerting solutions for data pipelines anddata repositories.
  • Experience and knowledge ofa wide variety of testing methods and tools covering functionalcustomer experience user accessibility device compatibilityperformance regression system integration ETL(ExtractTransformLoad) Business Intelligence applications andpipelines.
  • Operates with efficiency andautomation in mind; experience building reliable reusableautomation frameworks (e.g. CI/CD).
  • Strong SQLquerying skills are required.
  • Airline industryexperience a nice tohave.

  • Strong ability to conductdata analysis (e.g. source system identification datadictionary/metadata collection data profiling sourcetotargetmapping) is preferred.
  • Operates with a You CodeIt You Own It mindset (i.e. supports the products theybuild).
  • Demonstrated problemsolver; able todesign and document solutionsindependently.
  • Team player; able to collaboratewith others to remove blockers solve complex design problems anddebug/resolve issues.
