EssentialResponsibilities
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente'sPolicies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities andapplicable state, federal and locallaws.
- Essential Duties: Observes all applicableRegional, Medical Center & department policies andprocedures. Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive,physical, emotional and chronological maturation process indelivery of services to patients of the age group served. Able toassess data reflective of the patient's status andinterpret the appropriate information needed to identify eachpatient's requirements relative to his or her age specificneeds and to provide the care needed in accordance with departmentpolicy. Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensiveand accurate manner. Maintains standards of professional behaviorestablished to enhance quality of service. Demonstrates effectivecommunication skills. Demonstrates professional conduct in allinteractions with patient and staff. Maintains equipment, suppliesand work area in accordance with departmentguidelines.
- Essential Clinical Duties andResponsibilities: Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonanceimaging procedures, obtain patient history and conduct imagingscreens (e.g., checking for in-vivo metal objects); correlatesrequested exam with patient history and diagnosis Positions patientas required for requested exam or uses variations to ensure properpositioning of patient to magnet isocenter Selects appropriate coilfor requested exam and positions coil (such as head coil or kneecoil) to demonstrate area of interest and to obtain maximumtransmit and receive signal; selects monitoring devices and supportequipment as required by patient condition Obtains optimal MRimaging throughout entire region of interest by selecting andapplying imaging parameters such as - but not limited to - field ofview, number of slices, slice thickness, number of excitations(acquisitions), repetition time, echo time, phase direction,frequency direction, matrix and gap between slices; performs tuningprocedures; utilizes appropriate protocols for producing optimalimages; identifies and uses appropriate planes for a particularexam; modifies protocols as required to produce optimal images;identifies artifacts if present and corrects for problem Recognizesthe need for additional sequences, changes in protocols and theneed for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology,physical condition or image quality problems. Differentiates normalanatomy and normal variations in appearance in planes from abnormalconditions in order to make associated changes in imaging May applyspecial applications of MR such as contrast agents/studies, MRangiography, MR interventional, magnetization transfer imaging (MTI), echo planar, spectroscopy, maximum intensity projection, cineand perfusion/diffusion imaging Enters into computer specific datasuch as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientationspecified; keys commands to specify scan sequences into computerand adjusts transmitters and receivers; views images of area beingscanned on video display screens to ensure image quality Films scanresults utilizing a laser camera or photographs images andprocesses film.
Experience
BasicQualifications:
- Two (2) years of clinical experienceas a Radiologic Technologist in an acute care medical center 6months of clinical experience as a Magnetic Resonance ImagingTechnologist in an acute care medicalcenter.
- Per the National Agreement, current KPCoalition employees have this experience requirementwaived.
Education
- Successful completion of anaccredited educational program in radiological technology approvedby the American Medical Association and the American College ofRadiology as well as an on-the-job or formal training program incross sectional anatomy and Magnetic ResonanceImaging.
- Successful completion of an on-the-jobor formal training program in cross sectional anatomy and magneticresonance imaging
License, Certification,Registration
- BLS
- Certificationby the State of California as a Certified Radiologic Technologist(CRT) Registration as a Radiologic Technologist (Radiography) bythe American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT)
- Registration as a Radiologic Technologist(Radiography) issued by the American Registry of RadiologicTechnologists (ARRT)
AdditionalRequirements
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge ofand to utilize the principles, theories, practices and techniquesof basic and advanced magnetic resonance imaging including clinicalexams, physics, magnetic field safety, cross sectional anatomy andpatient care.
PreferredQualifications
- Two (2)years of clinical experienceas an MRI Technologist in an acute care medical center, computedTomography experience.
- Experience with GE MRIsystems. Additional training in the use and practices of MagneticResonance Imaging.
- Advanced Certification inMagnetic Resonance Imaging issued by the ARRT. Experience withAdvantage Windows workstation. Experience with PACS.

- This on-call position is to supportthe entire SD service area.
