ADental General Practitioner also known as a General Dentist is aprimary dental care provider who diagnoses treats and managesoverall oral health issues in patients of all ages. Heres acomprehensive job description for a Dental GeneralPractitioner:


  • Performroutine dental examinations including visual inspections xrays andperiodontal assessments to identify any oral health problems orpotential issues early on. Provide preventive services such asdental cleanings fluoride treatments sealants and oral hygieneinstructions to maintain optimal oralhealth.
  • Utilizediagnostic tools and techniques to assess patients oral healthstatus including identifying cavities gum disease oral infectionsand abnormalities in the teeth gums and oral tissues. Interpretdiagnostic images and laboratory tests to formulate accuratediagnoses.
  • Developcomprehensive treatment plans tailored to each patients uniqueneeds considering factors such as their oral health status medicalhistory preferences and budgetary constraints. Discuss treatmentoptions with patients explain the risks and benefits andcollaborate with them to make informed decisions about their dentalcare.
  • Performa variety of restorative procedures to repair or replace damaged ormissing teeth including dental fillings crowns bridges andimplants. Use dental materials such as composite resin porcelainand metal alloys to restore both function and aesthetics topatientssmiles.
  • Provideroot canal therapy to treat infected or inflamed dental pulp andpreserve teeth that would otherwise require extraction. Performroot canal procedures with precision and expertise to alleviatepain and save natural teeth wheneverpossible.
  • Diagnoseand treat gum disease (periodontal disease) through scaling androot planing procedures antibiotic therapy and surgicalinterventions as needed to restore gum health and prevent furtherprogression of thedisease.
  • Designand fabricate dental prostheses such as dentures partial denturesand dental implants to restore function and aesthetics for patientswith missing teeth. Ensure proper fit function and appearance ofprosthetic devices to enhance patients oral function andselfconfidence.
  • Performminor oral surgical procedures including tooth extractions biopsiesand soft tissue surgeries with precision and care. Coordinate withoral and maxillofacial surgeons for more complex surgical casesrequiring specializedexpertise.
  • Provideprompt and compassionate care for patients experiencing dentalemergencies such as severe toothaches dental trauma abscesses orbroken restorations. Offer sameday appointments and afterhoursavailability for urgent dentalneeds.
  • Educatepatients about proper oral hygiene practices dietary habits andlifestyle choices that promote optimal oral health and preventdental problems. Address patients questions concerns and anxietiesabout dental treatment with empathy andunderstanding.
  • Maintainaccurate and uptodate dental records including medical historiestreatment plans progress notes and radiographic images incompliance with regulatory standards and patient confidentialityguidelines.
  • Staycurrent with advancements in dental technology treatment modalitiesand clinical guidelines through ongoing professional developmentactivities including attending continuing education coursesseminars and conferences.


RequirementsBachelors Degree / Doctor of DentalMedicine Western BoardPreferred
Minimum 2 3 years ofexperience
Demonstratedclinical experience
Excellentcommunication and organizationalskills.
MOH registeredPreferred
Ability to multitaskprioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fastpacedenvironment.
