The Role

As a Pediatrician, you will use your extensive medical expertise to evaluate and provide objective insights in legal cases concerning pediatric health and care standards. Working on a freelance, case-by-case basis, you will conduct thorough reviews, create evidence-based reports, and provide testimony when needed. Your role will support the legal process by clarifying issues such as pediatric malpractice, developmental health concerns, and child safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct detailed assessments of medical records and treatment protocols in cases related to pediatric care, identifying any deviations from established standards.
2. Prepare objective, evidence-based reports that provide clear insights on pediatric health practices, child safety, and developmental health for legal teams.
3. Provide expert witness testimony in court or arbitration settings, presenting findings in an unbiased, professional, and comprehensible manner.
4. Collaborate with legal teams to translate complex pediatric medical concepts into accessible, relevant information for non-medical audiences.
5. Stay current on advances in pediatric healthcare to ensure your insights reflect the latest standards and best practices.

Key Areas of Focus

1. Offer expertise on issues such as birth injuries, neonatal care standards, and early developmental health.
2. Provide insights on cases involving potential malpractice in pediatric diagnostics, treatment, and emergency care.
3. Assess cases involving child welfare concerns, including suspected abuse or neglect, and evaluate the standards of care provided.
4. Provide expert opinions on cases involving developmental milestones, mental health, and behavioral disorders.
5. Serve as a credible expert witness, presenting findings in a clear, accurate manner to assist judges, juries, and legal professionals in understanding pediatric health issues.

Qualifications

1. UK medical degree with specialization in pediatrics (e.g., MRCPCH or equivalent).
2. Demonstrated expertise in pediatric care, including neonatal and infant health, child development, and pediatric emergency care.
3. Previous experience in expert witness services or consulting in medical-legal contexts is highly valued.

Ideal Profile

1. Fully registered and licensed pediatrician with extensive experience in clinical pediatrics and child healthcare.
2. Background in medical-legal consulting, with prior experience as an expert witness or consultant for legal cases strongly preferred.
3. Proven ability to produce clear, objective, and well-supported reports that meet the evidentiary standards of legal cases.
4. Excellent communication skills, allowing you to effectively explain complex medical information in layman's terms for legal audiences.
