EssentialResponsibilities

  • This position knows and complies withall Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies andprocedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habitsand clinical practice in every interaction with patients,colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety inthe preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limitedto medications including the consistent use of 5 rights and 3checks of medication administration, procedures, infectionprevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of twopatient identifiers and procedural time outs. Reports safetyhazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditionspromptly.
  • Applies principles of asepsis andinfection control. Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient careenvironment, including identifying malfunctioningequipment.
  • Supports the physician and othermedical providers in the care and treatment of patients, includingrooming the patient; communicating delays to patient, provider, andteam members; and facilitating the medical providers schedule.Performs duties and responsibilities with excellence, enthusiasm,great service orientation demonstrating courteous behaviors andmannerisms, and by anticipating physician and other medicalproviders needs.
  • Practices within scope ofpractice perimeters as inferred by licensure, standard nursingpractice, knowledge, skill level, and KPguidelines.
  • Performs routine and specializednursing procedures following physicians orders and approved nursingcare plan, e.g. administers treatment using therapeutic equipment,such as intermittent positive pressure breathing apparatus;administers medications (including narcotics) orally or byinjections; and provides specialized nursing care to acutely illpatients. If IV certified LPN, may perform intravenous therapy, asper Colorado State Board of Nursing ChapterIX.
  • Monitors patients condition by observing,collecting, reporting, and recording objective/subjective data;identifies changes in the patients condition; collect data andreport sign and symptoms of deviation from normal health status,symptoms and/or reactions to medications and treatments; initiatesappropriate standard emergency procedures and reports adversepatient conditions to physician, Nursing Manager, or registerednurse.
  • Teaches and promotes general preventivehealth measures to patients and members of their families regardinghome health care, such as use of medications, administeringinjections, taking blood pressure, general post-operative care, andgeneral diabetic care. Disseminates pre-printed standard aftercareinstructions and pre-printed patient instruction material. LicensedPractical Nurse.
  • Assists physician withexaminations, treatments and minor surgery, by preparing patientand room for a specific procedure and attending patient duringprocedure.
  • Records pertinent information inpatients medical chart, e.g., patients nursing history, physicaldata, vital signs, symptoms, treatments, examinations, medicationsadministered, reactions and general observations, according tostandard requirements.
  • Assists in orienting andtraining new employees, as assigned. May perform the duties of aNursing Assistant or Medical Receptionist, as required. Mayassign/coordinate activities for nursing and medical assistants andmedical receptionist.
  • Orders, stores andmaintains adequate inventory of supplies and instruments used bydepartment as assigned.
  • In addition to definedtechnical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstratingservice behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser PermanenteService Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specificdepartmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable forconsistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, andbehaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitiveservice to each other, to our members, and to purchasers,contracted providers and vendors.

Education

  • Graduation from an accreditedPractical Nursing program and licensed as a Practical Nurse (LPN)in the State of Colorado and completed a minimum of 400 clock hoursof faculty planned clinical experience and guided learningactivities which required direct supervision by faculty, associatenursing instructional personnel (ANIP) or preceptor who isphysically present or immediatelyaccessible.
  • High School Diploma OR GeneralEducation Diploma (GED) required.

License, Certification,Registration

  • PracticalNurse License (Colorado)

AdditionalRequirements

  • Demonstrated customer service focusand exemplary service skills.
  • I.V. therapycertification may be required for some positions.

PreferredQualifications

  • BLSpreferred.
  • Six (6) months of experience withadults, pediatrics and/or traumapreferred.
  • I.V. therapy certificationpreferred.
