Screen cytologic smearsfor malignant cells and microorganisms. Report results or refer tophysician. Enter results in hospital computer system. Prepare andstain cytologicpreparations.

EssentialResponsibilities

• Screen cytologic smears (both Papsmears and non-GYN smears) for suspicious and malignant cells, andmicroorganisms, and to determine specimenadequacy.
• Report out final Pap smear results onnegative cases not requiring QC or physician review. Submitappropriate cases to physicians and for QCreview.
• Accurately enter Pap smear results intothe hospital computer system (CORTEX).
• Be ableto process specimens if Lab Assistants are not available (rareoccurrence).
• Maintain productivity targets andaccuracy ratings as described in the cytologic lab manual and theperformance evaluation. Meet all other performance evaluationstandards for human relations, problem solving, initiativepersonnel policies, maintenance, and clerical tasks.
