Job Description An Estimation Engineer specializing in PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) within the realm of industrial automation is a pivotal role in modern industrial settings. This professional bears the responsibility for accurately estimating the costs and resources needed for automation projects, ensuring these projects are delivered on time and within budget. As the interface between the sales team, project management, and engineering, the Estimation Engineer synthesizes technical specifications and commercial conditions, crafting precise project proposals. The role demands a blend of technical acumen in PLC systems, attention to detail, and a robust understanding of cost estimation processes. Adept communication and negotiation skills are essential, as the candidate will interact with clients and internal stakeholders to align project objectives and expectations. The ultimate goal is to ensure project feasibility and profitability while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. Responsibilities Analyze customer requirements and convert them into viable automation solutions using PLCs. Prepare detailed estimates and quotations based on customer specifications and designs. Liaise with suppliers and contractors to obtain competitive pricing for project components. Collaborate closely with the sales and technical teams to develop project proposals. Interpret technical drawings and schematics to assist in cost estimation processes. Maintain and update estimation tools and templates to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Conduct risk assessments to identify potential challenges and propose mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations in all estimates and proposals. Track worldwide trends in PLC technology and incorporate them into project planning. Support project delivery teams with technical advice throughout the project lifecycle. Review and analyze project estimates to improve accuracy for future projects. Prepare and present detailed reports to management on estimated projects and outcomes. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline. Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial automation project estimation. Proficient in the use of PLCs and understanding of control systems and architecture. Strong analytical skills to interpret complex technical data and client requirements. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client and team interaction. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines effectively. Proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
