Job Description
- Conduct thorough research to identify existing trademarks, patents, and copyrights that may impact the company's trademark portfolio and brand identity.
- Draft, file, and prosecute trademark applications, ensuring compliance with applicable trademark laws and regulations.
- Handle trademark disputes, including enforcement actions, opposition proceedings, and litigation, to protect and strengthen the company's trademark rights.
- Monitor industry trends and legal developments related to trademarks and other intellectual property, providing proactive advice on potential risks and opportunities for the company's brand.
- Conduct regular IP audits with a focus on the strength and vulnerabilities of the company's trademark portfolio.
- Educate internal teams on the importance of trademark protection and implement best practices for safeguarding the company's trademarks and brand assets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, branding, and product development) to develop trademark strategies that support the company's business objectives and brand positioning.
- Negotiate and prepare trademark licensing agreements, ensuring that terms align with the company's brand strategy and long-term goals.
- Advise internal teams on the protection, enforcement, and expansion of the company's trademark rights, including global trademark strategies and portfolio management.
- Assist in developing and executing strategies for optimizing the value of the company's trademark assets and maximizing their commercial potential.
Desired Candidate Profile
Educational Requirements:
- Law Degree : A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
- Advanced Degree (Optional but Recommended) : A Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property law, with a focus on IP law , from a recognized institution. Specialized qualifications in IP law from global institutions will be valued.
- Admission to the Bar or Equivalent Legal Authority : Candidates must either be admitted to the Dubai Legal Affairs Department or possess valid legal qualifications recognized by their local or international legal authorities. Relevant certifications from national or international bar associations will be considered.
- Specialized IP Certification (Optional) : Additional certifications in IP law , such as those from WIPO , INTA , or other recognized IP organizations, will be highly regarded.
Key Skills and Experience Required:
- Experience in Intellectual Property (IP) Law : At least 4-7 years of experience in IP law , with a strong emphasis on trademark law , but also encompassing patents, copyrights, and trade secrets . Candidates should have robust experience in managing global IP portfolios , filing and protecting IP rights across multiple jurisdictions.
- Knowledge of UAE IP Laws : A deep understanding of UAE intellectual property law , including UAE Trademark Law , Patent Law , Copyright Law , and related regulations. Familiarity with international IP systems and treaties, such as the Madrid Protocol and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) , will be a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with GCC and Global IP Systems : Expertise in GCC IP regulations and global IP systems like the Madrid Protocol for trademarks and PCT for patents. Understanding the interaction of UAE IP laws with international IP frameworks is critical.
- IP Portfolio Management : Experience in managing global IP portfolios , with a focus on ensuring compliance with both UAE and international laws. This includes filing, prosecuting, and defending various IP rights, as well as developing strategies to expand and protect the company's IP assets.
- Litigation & Dispute Resolution : Experience in IP litigation and dispute resolution, particularly in resolving IP infringements . This includes handling oppositions , cancellations , enforcement actions , and IP-related disputes at the UAE courts or through alternative dispute resolution methods.
- Fluency in English : Fluency in both English is required. Candidates should possess proficiency in English and be willing to learn or improve their knowledge of Arabic, as legal documents may be in both languages.
- Negotiation and Contract Drafting : Strong skills in negotiating and drafting IP licensing agreements , IP assignments , and other IP protection contracts that comply with both local and international law.
- Attention to Detail : Precision and attention to detail are critical in managing IP filings, monitoring IP rights, and ensuring the protection of the company's IP assets across multiple jurisdictions.

- Cultural Awareness : An understanding of the UAE's legal environment and international IP practices is important. Candidates should be adaptable to the UAE business practices while navigating cross-cultural considerations in global IP strategies.
- Technology & Digital IP Protection : Expertise in digital IP protection , such as online brand monitoring , cybersecurity , and managing IP in the digital space, will be highly valued.
- Networking & Industry Involvement : Active participation in international IP organizations , such as INTA , WIPO , or regional IP bodies, is an advantage. Candidates with established industry connections and a strong professional network will be prioritized.
- Relocation to Dubai : Candidates must be willing to relocate to Dubai or have existing authorization to practice in the UAE.
