EssentialResponsibilities

  • Demonstrates anawareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age specificneeds, cultural and ethicalbeliefs.
  • Provides/coordinates care forpatients/patient populations.
  • Establisheseffective working relationships with members of the health careteam, patients, and families.
  • Acknowledgesstaff rights and cultural and ethicalbeliefs.
  • Delegates appropriately andcoordinates duties of health care teammembers.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care givenby health care team members.
  • Utilizes effectivecommunication methods and skills, following lines of authority, asappropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of andapplies safety principles as identified within theinstitution.
  • Performs efficiently in emergencypatient care situations following established protocols, remainingcalm, informing appropriate persons, and documentingevents.
  • Demonstrates responsibility andaccountability for own professionalpractice.
  • Participates regularly in staffdevelopment activities for unit and departmentpersonnel.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legalissues, including patient confidentiality and risk management inall aspects of patient care and unitfunctioning.
  • Participates in unit andDepartment Performance Improvement activities asdirected.
  • Participates in nursing researchactivities as requested.
  • Identifies and solvesproblems effectively.
  • Demonstrates a servicephilosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and allmembers of the health care team.
  • Provides datafor staffing decisions and demonstrates flexibility in theresolution of staffing issues; demonstrates flexibility whenfloating to other units uponrequests.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the useof computers and telecommunication modalities in documenting,tracking and conveying information. Ability to navigate in awindows environment, utilizing a mouse and the ability to learnelectronic medical record systemapplication.
  • Perform other related duties asnecessary.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan ofcare that is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosisand patient outcomes.
  • Identifies patient/familylearning needs and implements appropriatemeasures.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge base andactions in the care of a designated patientpopulation.
  • Participates regularly in staffdevelopment activities for unit and Department of Nursingpersonnel.
  • Documents patient care and unitactivities in a timely, accurate, and concisemanner.
  • If no qualified candidate, may bewilling to train in the specialty areas listed below. Candidates intraining are required to obtain appropriate certifications within 6months of hire or transfer into unit.

Experience

BasicQualifications:

  • One year recent (within the last 3years) experience in Neonatal Level III nursery or completion of aKP NICU Training Program within the past 12 months.

Education

  • High SchoolDiploma/GED
  • Graduate of an accreditedregistered nursing program and completion of the current hoursrequired by the BRN of RN student clinical experience; OR Graduateof registered nursing program and either: 1) 2000 hours of RNexperience in clinical area of specialty from a licensed acute carefacility within three (3) years of graduation; or 2) graduate of anaccredited licensed vocational nursing program that includesclinical student experience in acute care and has worked 2000 hoursas a licensed vocational nurse within the clinical area ofspecialty within three (3) years beforegraduation
  • or (3) currently enrolled in anaccredited entry level MSN program and has completed pre-licensurerequirements to practice nursing.

  • RegisteredNurse License (California)
  • Basic LifeSupport
  • Neonatal ResuscitationProgram

AdditionalRequirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the RNscope of practice
  • Demonstrated commitment toservice orientation (members, staff,providers)
  • Demonstrated effective written andoral communication skills (in English)
  • Goodinterpersonal skills

  • May expected to cross train to atleast 1 other Maternal Child Health/Family Centered Care area withappropriate certifications.
