Psychiatry Specialist

Serves as Specialist of the PsychiatricDepartment. Coordinates and monitors the health care provided inthe department to promote efficient and effective delivery ofquality health care both in the OPD and in the IP sector. Providesdirection and control over all the department activities.Administers resources of the department in a manner that serves thebest interest ofPatients

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performsadministrative functions at the Department level as established bythe Medical Management. Supports Continuous Quality Improvement.Develops and promotes appropriate standards ofcare.
• Develops and implements work assignments,on-call assignments, and vacation schedules for Departmentstaff.
• Supervises and monitors the delivery ofhealth care by department staff. Provides guidance regardingpatient care when indicated. Takes remedial action whenappropriate.
• Develops and implements effectivePeer Review. Provides annual and on-going feedback asappropriate.
• Works closely with other concernedcommittees in developing policies and procedures to promote qualityhealth care for psychiatric patients.
• Exerciseseffective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff,with associates and with Management.
• Evidencesleadership skills in developing in others the willingness anddesire to work toward commonobjectives.
• Maintains confidentiality regardingpatient information and regarding administrative matters ofconfidential nature.
• Produces writtencommunications, assessments, proposals and administrative documentsthat are timely and of high quality. Work product is of thequantity required to effectively accomplish duties as head of thedepartment.
• Evidences dependability in carryingout the commitments and obligations of theposition.
• Demonstrates the ability to listen toothers in promoting effectivecommunication.
• Develops thorough understandingof policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respectfor them.
• Performs other duties as assigned bythe Medical Director.
• Comply with all OSH andinfection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperatewith hospital management to comply thoserequirements
• Work accordance with thedocumented OSH procedures and instructions, specificresponsibilities
• Be familiar with emergency andevacuation procedures
• Notifying OSH Hazards,incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with thepreparation of risk assessments, incidentreports
• Comply with Waste management proceduresand policies
• Attend applicable OSH/Infectioncontrol training programs, mock drills and awarenessprograms
• Use of appropriate personal protectiveequipment and safety systems and follow safe workingprocedures

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduationfrom an approved medical school plus one year of internship andminimum three years of residency; certification by accredited Boardof Psychiatric Medicine.
• At least two (2) yearsof practice as a licensed specialist inpsychiatry.
• Excellent command of oral andwritten English. Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but notessential.
• Must be highly skilled in theparticular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment andability to provide professional leadership.
• Hemust have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies andprocedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintainthe confidentiality of his work; personality which inspiresconfidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rulesand Regulations of the MedicalOrganization.
• Must have DOH License topractice.
• Communication, interpersonal skillsas applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients& families.
