Position Overview

KU is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to work on a project related to secure unmanned traffic management system. Unmanned traffic management is an ecosystem that assures efficient, reliable, and safe operations of unmanned aerial vehicles through information exchange between relevant system agents. Core functions of UTM include registration, authorization, and remote identification. These tasks should be performed securely to prevent malicious attacks that threaten airspace and public safety. This project aims to develop, implement, and test a zero trust-based, secure, resilient, and autonomous system for drone-UTM interactions using state-of-the-art information and communication technologies. The candidate should work on a computer vision-based solution for drone identification, matching, and disambiguation. This includes experimental setups and development of algorithms that allow real-time detection and tracking of small drone motions as a response to related requests.

Position Requirements Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related programs from a reputable university. Adhere to the University\'s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager Qualifications

Candidate Profile

Essential Criteria Strong background in computer vision and deep learning for object classification and tracking. Good background in embedded systems and experimental setups. Abilities to fly or to learn to fly a drone for lab experiments. Experience in undertaking research tasks. A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture. Well-developed reasoning and problem-solving skills. Excellent time management skills. Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written). Desired Criteria Some background in information security and privacy.
